Since January 2007, the Regulation (EC) nº1924/2006 on food health claims is being enforced.

This legislation harmonises the rules in all member states as far as food and health publicity is concerned, and stresses the need to scientifically support such statements. Only those claims which present enough support may be authorised, whereas previously there was no need for them to be backed up by scientific evidence.
